Director of Industrial Accidents

The Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) is seeking a Director to manage operations of the agency that administers the workers' compensation system for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ensures workers are protected if they are injured on the job or develop a work-related illness. The DIA has offices in Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Fall River and Lawrence and is committed to maintaining the Commonwealth's reputation for having one of the best Workers' Compensation systems in the nation.

The Director oversees the 3 Divisions of the DIA, which are Administration, who are responsible for day-to-day operations of the agency; Dispute Resolution, responsible for adjudication of personal injury claims in the work place; and the Office of Legal Counsel, which represents the Workers Compensation Trust Fund (WCTF) in all matters relating to claims for payments or requests for reimbursements.

Specific duties include evaluating DIA policy and programs to ensure the agency maintains its goals and objectives; designing and implementing programs and plans for the Department and the Workers' Compensation system, while ensuring all rules, regulations and procedures conform to the statute; promoting uniformity and cooperation between all DIA divisions; and representing the DIA on several boards and committees.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Juris Doctor (JD). May substitute equivalent legal experience.

· Extensive knowledge of Massachusetts Workers’ Compensation law

· 10+ years experience with worker’s compensation insurance and claims

· Expertise in Risk Assessment and Mitigation

· Knowledge of commercial insurance products

· Proficiency in operations and organizational management.

· Supervisory experience

Qualifications - External

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

 Applicants must have at least (A) seven (7) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least four (4) years must have been in a managerial capacity.
