Status:  Full-time

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range:  $62,622 – $88,222 /per year, based on a 10-step salary schedule

Benefits: Benefits accrue based on the full/part time classification for the position

DEFINITION:

Under direct supervision of Claims Manager, reviews and evaluates indemnity workers' compensation claims (as determined by the Claims Manager), with the expectation of handling progressively more difficult claims as the individual's experience level increases. Performs various computer functions including data entry and check processing, interacts with district personnel, vendors, and injured workers.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

In accordance with claims management procedures, reviews, evaluates and processes workers' indemnity claims for member school districts that are appropriate to the individual's level of experience and which progressively increase in difficulty to a full range of claims adjusting (as determined by the Claims Manager).  Works closely with injured workers, school districts, medical providers, etc. in the management of those claims.  Will be responsible for entering all assigned new claims into computer, setting up files, making initial contact calls, calculating temporary disability and making first payments, matching mail, scheduling medical appointments, processing checks, typing various state forms, correspondence, etc., responding to employees' inquiries regarding their claims. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

Office procedures, filing systems, telephone techniques, and computer systems; MS Word and medical terminology desirable.  Two years claims assistant experience – as directed by an examiner. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products desired.

 

Ability to:

Apply complex mathematical skills in calculation of disability rates in accordance with statutory requirements, communicate professionally and effectively, organize and prioritize workload, learn and interpret rules and policies and use good judgment in applying them in a variety of situations. 

 

Typing/computer skills sufficient to perform the job.  Enthusiasm, congeniality and flexibility are all necessary traits for this position.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

 

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.  Three years' clerical/computer experience in a workers' compensation setting.  Two years experience as a claims assistant in a workers’ compensation setting.

 

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

Valid California Driver's License
