WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Are you searching for a career opportunity with an established leader in Workers’ Compensation? Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies is searching for experienced Defense Attorneys in the Los Angeles area. Our House Counsel Attorneys work closely with our Claims teams to ensure efficient and cost effective resolution of claims. Our attorneys are responsible for successfully managing a caseload of litigated workers' compensation claims of all values and complexity as well as making appearances at depositions, trials and hearings before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Boards. They will also be responsible for the following duties:

Review claims case files and provide effective and appropriate analysis of legal issues
Analyze and set forth a litigation strategy on a per case basis, and direct cases toward resolution
By applying extensive legal knowledge, skill and ability, zealously and ethically represent BHHC for all phases of litigation for claims cases
Prepare, attend, and thoroughly report on administrative and trial proceedings
Draft pleadings, petitions, correspondence and documentation
Perform legal research and maintain an up-to-date understanding of key legal issues related to workers compensation
Develop and provide educational seminars and roundtables to the Claims Department for training and professional development
Effectively and appropriately communicate with fellow workers, including Claims department, attorneys, hearing representatives, lien claimants, judges, and court personnel
HOW YOU’D FIT IN:
Law degree (JD or LLB) from an accredited law school and admitted into the California State Bar.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Workers’ Compensation
Excellent negotiation skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal and professional journals, technical procedures, laws, and governmental regulations
Ability to negotiate, write and interpret legal and business correspondence and reports;
