SALARY: $ 75,617 - $106,527 per year, based on 10-step salary schedule

SUMMARY:
Under supervision of Claims Supervisor, reviews and evaluates complex and litigated workers' compensation claims for compensability. Works closely with member school districts in the management and processing of district employee claims. Maintains an appropriate caseload in accordance with acceptable standards.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
In accordance with claims management procedures, reviews, investigates and processes workers' compensation claims of member school districts with a Risk Management Information System. Reviews medical reports, pursues subrogation recovery, negotiates settlements, authorizes payments, maintains claim files, represents district and JPA at hearings, and prepares cases for litigation. Works closely with injured workers, school districts, attorneys, medical providers, investigators, etc., in the management of injured worker claims. Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
W/C claims adjusting, investigation, and administrative techniques necessary to carry management of claims from reporting of injury to settlement or closure; Labor Code, Education Code, and Government Code sections relative to workers' compensation of public entity school districts; reserving practices and techniques in accordance with laws sufficient to set and maintain responsible levels on all claim situations and keep excess carriers informed when losses potentially exceed the JPA self-insured retention; office methods, excellent customer care, letter and report writing; Risk Management Information Systems used to manage workers' compensation claims. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products desired.
Ability to:
Organize, develop, and prepare claims for assignment to counsel, trial, and pre-trial conferences; learn, interpret, and apply specific rules, laws, and policies necessary to apply them with good judgment in the administration of public entity workers' compensation claims; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in work; analyze situations and adopt effective course of action working independently and with direction both verbal and written; represent NBSIA to employees, attorneys, medical providers, and others in a manner consistent with the policies, practices, and procedures of the organization; use email and web based tools to share and process documents and claim information.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Completion of the twelfth grade and specialized training and course work necessary in workers' compensation adjusting. A minimum of 2 years of claims examiner experience with the insurance industry administering workers' compensation claims for large or multiple clients preferably from a self-insured public entity.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
· California Self-Insurance Administrator's Certificate
· California Driver's License
